About us

ORGANISATION OVERVIEW

Green Agriculture Youth Organization is a Non governmental non-profit registered Organisation in accordance with the Non governmental organisations Act number 16 of 2009 in the Republic of Zambia. Established on March 17, 2020, Gayo is dedicated to empowering 850,000 youths by positioning young people and women at the forefront of sustainable agriculture, food systems transformation and community development
Our core mission is to work with youth, women and marginalized groups to advocate for community-led climate solutions, sustainable agriculture, Agripreneurship, gender inclusion, digital literacy and environmental sustainability. While GAYO has a national focus, our primary operations are Southern, Lusaka, Copperbelt and Eastern Province.

Mission and Vision Statements

At Green Agriculture Youth Organisation, Our Vision is to establish a climate-resilient society where sustainability and environment conservation empower communities, particularly the youth and women.

Our Mission is to combat youth unemployment, poverty and hunger in Zambia by promoting agriculural entrepreneurship among women and youth, advocating for land ownership and addressing barriers that hinder their participation in agriculture.

GAYO Provides comprehensive home grown agricultural solutions across the value chain, complementing government efforts to drive national development. Additionally, Gayo amplifies the voices of young people and women, ensuring their needs are reflected in climate change, agriculture policies and strategies. By breaking down barriers to agricultural engagement, we create pathways for sustainable development across Zambia

Youth and Women Empowerment

We invest in building the capacity of youth and women through skills training, access to resources and leadership development. By equiping them with the necessary tools, we foster self-reliance and meaningful participation in agriculture and beyond.

Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems

GAYO promotes environmentally friendly farming practices such as agroecology and climate-smart agriculture. We focus on increasing productivity while creating market linkages and protecting natural resources for future generations

Climate Change Advocacy

We raise awareness about climate change and its impacts on communities, advocating for locally-led adaptation strategies and policies that prioritize resilience annd sustainability. Our goal is to empower communities to take action against climate challenges.

Digital and Economic Inclusion

To bridge the digital divide, we train youth and women in digital literacy and introduce technology driven solutions to agriculture. Our entrepreneurship programs empower youth to create sustainable livelihoods and thhrive in a digital economy.

Land Rights and Policy Advocacy

GAYO champions land ownership rights for youth and women, addressing legal and cultural barriers. We work with policymakers to ensure national strategies are inclusive and cater to marginalized groups, particularly in agrifood systems and value chains.

Sustainable Agriculture

GAYO ensures long term food production by preserving oil health, coonserving water, promoting biodiversity, and minimising chemical use. We support eco-friendly farming practices, enhance climate resilience and reduce environmental impact while ensuring economic viability of farmers and food security for future generations.

Sustainable Agripreneurship (Empowerment)

GAYO fosters eco-friendly agriculture businesses while empoering farmers and entrepreneurs. We promote value addition, market access, green innovation and financial inclusion. By integrating sustainability with profitability, enhances economic growth, reduces poverty and strengthens food systems, creatinglong term benefits for communities and the environment.
